Baltimore, MD - Sept. 17, 2025 - A growing debate in Maryland centers on who should be held responsible when a criminal receives a light sentence and then commits another crime. Some politicians argue judges should face consequences.
Maryland Del. Ryan Nawrocki, R – Baltimore County, believes judges should be held to the highest standard. He said judges are public officials, elected and appointed to their roles, and their decisions have direct consequences on public safety. “Judges are one of the key elements to making sure that we're not putting bad people back on the street over and over again,” Nawrocki said.
Some legal experts say they support more transparency for judicial decisions but caution against punishment, fearing it would lead to fewer people choosing...

A new study from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem explores how the Israel–Gaza war is transforming religion and spirituality among young adults. Surveying over 1,200 students, the researchers found that half reported changes in their religiosity and/or spirituality, with increases more common than decreases. "Last night, the IDF expanded ground activity in Gaza City, marking the start of the new phase of the operation," Gen. Defrin stated. "Working together in coordinated and precise strikes, air, ground, and intelligence forces are targeting Hamas military targets that threaten Israel's security."
"Gaza City is the central hub of Hamas’ military and governing power - their main stronghold," he declared. "Hamas has turned Gaza City into the largest human shield in history."

Baltimore County, MD - Sept. 16, 2025 - Monday night the ayes overtook the nays in the Baltimore County Council, meaning members finally approved a final redistricting map.
The map creates two majority African American districts and a majority minority district on the west side.
But it didn't pass without pushback from council members Julian Jones and Pat Young.
"These amendments are disrespecting my 122,000 constituents, and it's disrespecting me," Jones said.
Jones pushed an amendment for Woodlawn to get its own district, which the council shot down.
Young called for four minority districts and was also shut down by a council vote.
"I don't think we've gone far enough by recognizing what our county looks like now in 2025," Young said.

In a move that underscores the deepening chasm between the Spanish government and the State of Israel, Madrid has formally cancelled a lucrative contract for Israeli-designed rocket launchers, AFP reported on Monday.
This decision, valued at nearly 700 million euros, was formalized on Spain’s official public contracts platform on September 9, just a day before Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez publicly unveiled a decree to "consolidate in law" a ban on military equipment sales and purchases with Israel, the news agency said.
The cancelled contract involved the acquisition of 12 SILAM rocket launcher systems, which are a variant of the PULS platform developed by Israeli firm Elbit Systems. This information was confirmed by the International Institute for Strategic Studies&rsquo...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 15, 2022 - For a fourth year in a row, Maryland recorded an increase in reported medical mistakes, including some that were fatal, the state’s Department of Health said in its annual patient safety report.
The continued rise in reports of adverse events — medical mistakes leading to complications in treatment — is an “after effect of the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to the Maryland Hospital Patient Safety Program’s annual report for the 2023 fiscal year.
The pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in the health care system, including staffing shortages, high patient acuity and supply chain disruptions, which continue to contribute to errors, the report said.
Over 80% of these errors in Fiscal Year 2023 were classified as Level 1 events...
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 15, 2025 - A sense of fear has enveloped Baltimore's Inner Harbor following two violent incidents over the weekend. An 18-year-old was shot after an argument, and a 17-year-old was robbed in the bustling tourist area.
"You hear that something that happens just last night, it’s a little bit scary, I’m not going to lie," a concerned resident said.
Despite these incidents, city officials, including the mayor and governor, have stated that crime in Baltimore is on the decline and have dismissed the idea of deploying the National Guard. However, some residents disagree.
"I think the National Guard would be very much called for, because it prevents more danger," said one resident.
In Washington, D.C., where the National Guard has been deployed in ...
