Baltimore, MD - Feb. 3, 2026 - Another ground stop was put in place Tuesday at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
A BWI-Marshall spokesman told WBAL-TV 11 News that a short-term airfield closure was planned for Tuesday afternoon that was coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration.
This comes a day after the FAA issued a ground stop at Baltimore's airport after airport personnel identified a localized pavement failure at the intersection of the airport's two primary runways. The runways were temporarily closed Monday night to safely complete repairs.
SKY 11 video showed flights were grounded, and Capt. Roy Taylor said several incoming flights had been diverted to other airports.
On Tuesday, the airport spokesman said an inspection revealed "a continued pavement failure on the runway surface, which required prompt repairs to maintain safe operating conditions."
The spokesman said a maintenance team and contractor personnel performed an additional corrective pavement repair and that pavement patch needed additional time to cure, which extended the temporary closure Tuesday. One runway reopened around 1:30 p.m.
More inspections and maintenance are scheduled to take place overnight.
