An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, after authorities said she used her vehicle to try to run over federal officers during a targeted enforcement operation.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement that rioters began blocking ICE officers when one of the rioters allegedly attempted to "weaponize her vehicle" to hit law enforcement officials in what they described as an act of "domestic terrorism."
"An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers," the agency added."The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. Thankfully, the ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries," DHS added.
Minneapolis’ official X account posted earlier that it was aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue and warned the public to "avoid this area."
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News the incident was a "direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement who are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats."
She said DHS will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
