Baltimore, MD - Feb. 14, 2025 - A man has been released from prison after spending nearly 30 years there due to a wrongful conviction for a murder he didn't commit.
Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates and officials from the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project announced the vacatur of James Langhorne's conviction based on new evidence and new information that was learned after the trial at a press conference on Thursday.
Langhorne was arrested in Nov. 1996 for the murder of Lawrence Jones.
Bates said a combination of unreliable and conflicting witness testimonies, a trial witness who recanted, as well as the State's failure to disclose potential suspects and additional information collectively support the case for vacating Mr. Langhorne's conviction.

Baltimore, MD - Feb. 14, 2025 - When it comes to energy bills, when comparing bills from residents in Maryland and surrounding states like Pennsylvania and Virginia, residents are paying more in Maryland.
Bills provided by residents in Maryland, showed bills ranging from about $400 to $900, for homes ranging from about 1,400 to 2,000 square feet.
"When I saw that bill, I was flabbergasted," said Pikesville resident Yehuda Diamond.
However, comparing those bills to bills of residents in either similar-sized or larger homes, other fees have also contributed to the higher costs. For instance, at the beginning of the year, new rate hikes from BGE went into effect, which help pay for new and updated energy infrastructure.
In a statement, a spokesperson said, "BGE’s distribution rates,...

Ma’amad Har Sinai was about establishing a relationship between Hashem and B’nei Yisrael. In Rav Eisemann’s discussion of Ma’amad Har Sinai and the Ten Commandments in his book I brought you unto Me (V’avi eschem Eilai), he presents a beautiful analysis based on the Ramban. B’nei Yisrael is told to be “Mamleches kohanim v’goi kadosh”, and the 10 commandments define what a mamleches kohanim and goi kadosh mean, in effect representing the ‘constitution’ defining that relationship. Kohanim can mean aristocrats (Rashi) or servants of Hashem (Ramban). These two meanings are incorporated into the constitution: we are to be excellent people and also live in the knowledge that we are always avdei Hashem...
There are several episodes depicted throughout the Talmud and Midrash when sages were engaged in the study of Torah and became so exuberant from the experience that it is described as הדברים שמחים כנתינתם מסיני — the matter was as joyous as during the giving of the Torah.
Yet, in the description as it appears in the Torah, there is no mention of joy, only fear.
And all the people saw the voices and the torches, the sound of the shofar, and the smoking mountain, and the people saw and trembled; so, they stood from afar.
They said to Moshe, "You speak with us, and we will hear, but let God not speak with us lest we die."
But Moshe said to the people, "Fear not, for God has come in order to exalt you, and in order that His awe shall be upon your faces,...
We find two interesting phenomena surrounding Mattan Torah. Firstly, Rashi observes that the Torah describes the people encamped around Har Sinai using the word ‘vayichan’ in singular form. He famously explains that the nation was “k’ish echad b’lev echad – like one person with one heart.” In other words, the use of the singular verb vayichan indicates the unique level of unity the people achieved at this location. Why was it specifically at Har Sinai that the Jewish People achieved this exceptional level of achdus?
Secondly, immediately after enumerating the Ten Commandments, the Torah describes that the people “saw the sounds.” What does it mean to see sound? Is this even possible? What is the Torah trying to convey to us with this c...
Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 13, 2025 - President Isaac Herzog hosted the Swearing-In Ceremony for Supreme Court President Justice Isaac Amit at Beit Hanasi in Jerusalem, Israel on Thursday evening, 15 Shevat 5785. What made this ceremony different from past ones, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana did not attend the swearing-in ceremony. Opposition leader Yair Lapid, former President Reuven Rivlin, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, past Supreme Court Judges, hundreds of judges, and Amit family members filled the large room ...
A prominent Democrat is arguing that "there isn’t a constitutional crisis" happening right now with the Trump administration.
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., reportedly made the remark to HuffPost on Wednesday, the same day White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt declared that "the real constitutional crisis is taking place within our judicial branch, where district court judges in liberal districts across the country are abusing their power to unilaterally block President Trump's basic executive authority."
Just roughly three weeks back in the Oval Office, Trump's administration has been hit with at least 57 lawsuits working to resist his policies and executive orders.
"When it was [President] Joe Biden, then you [had] a conservative judge j...
