Parents of Oriel Goshen, Hy”d. (Yehuda Honickman)While my older son Avi guarded the border, his younger brother Arky was called into Gaza recently, for a mission which he described as the most important assignment his unit has received in its entire history. “Every single one of us was ready to put our lives on the line for this mission,” he told us upon his return.
My son’s job is not an enviable one, and it’s not for most people. It’s a largely unknown unit called “Yasar,” an acronym for Yechidat Srika, loosely translated as the scanning unit. He is involved in recovering bodies and body parts, sometimes even on an active batt...

Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - The Baltimore metro area is the 36th-worst location in the country for smog pollution, according to the American Lung Association’s 2025 “State of the Air” report finding that after decades of progress, the air we breathe is getting dirtier in many parts of the country.

They are two of the most widespread and dangerous of pollutants.

The recall covers certain Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs; Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Suburbans and Tahoes; as well as GMC Sierra 1500s, Yukons and Yukon XLs between model years 2021 and 2024.
According to recall documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles share a gas engine that may have connecting rod or crankshaft component problems, due to supplier manufacturing or quality issues. This can lead to engine damage, and potentially failure, while driving — increasing crash risks.
Prior to failure, NHTSA document...

Columbia graduate student and pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil can argue in federal court that he was detained and targeted for deportation because of his political views, a judge ruled Tuesday, in what his legal team called an important step in establishing his freedom.
Khalil, a Syrian-born green card holder, has been in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Louisiana since shortly after his March 8 arrest at his New York apartment building. His case has become a high-profile example of a broader crackdown by President Donald Trump's administration on foreign students who are perceived as a threat to U.S. foreign policy.
New Jersey District Judge Michael Farbiarz said in a 108-page ruling that he would retain jurisdiction over the...
Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - As the government intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration, President Trump has ordered a list of sanctuary cities that are not cooperating with federal agents.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, "It will direct the Attorney General to provide a list of sanctuary cities back to the administration. We will review those. If those sanctuary cities are breaking federal law, well then, the Office of Management and Budget will look at their federal spending."
Flavio Hickel, an associate professor at Washington College, suggested that the Trump administration might target Baltimore.
"My hunch is that the Trump administration would be highly incentivized and motivated to try to target Baltimore," Hickel said. He believes Baltimore and o...
Jerusalem, Israel - April 30, 2025 - Hamas posted a message encouraging Palestinians to "burn whatever you can of groves, forests, and settler homes," on Telegram on Wednesday.
"Youth of the West Bank, youth of Jerusalem, and those inside Israel, set their cars ablaze... Gaza awaits the revenge of the free," the terrorist organization wrote.
Earlier, the Jenin News Network Telegram channel called on Palestinians to "burn the groves near the settlements" in a post on Telegram on Wednesday.
As the wildfires continue to burn across central Israel, the channel posted a photo of a masked person setting fire to a field as a town burns in the background, with the text "Settlers' homes will be ashes under the feet of the revolutionaries" and the hashtag "Burn settlers'...

Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - Mayor Brandon Scott's summer engagement initiative, aimed at curbing juvenile crime, is facing scrutiny as concerns about youth violence grow. The plan is part of a broader effort to reduce crime in the city, but some are questioning its effectiveness.
Retired Sgt. Betsy Smith, spokesperson for the National Police Association, expressed support Tuesday for the idea of youth engagement. "Is summer youth engagement a great idea, well, of course it is," she said. "I don't think anyone would dispute the fact that a busy kid is a less likely to get in trouble kid." However, Smith raised questions about the specifics of the engagement. "But we've got to look at, and I'm very curious about, what type of engagement?" she said.
The initiative c...
Jerusalem, Israel - April 30, 2025 - Police on Wednesday evacuated multiple communities, following the reigniting of last week's forest fire in Eshta'ol in five separate locations: Route 3, which has been closed to traffic; Canada Park; Neve Shalom; Mesilat Zion; and Mitzpeh Harel.
The decision to evacuate was made due to the complex conditions on the ground, including strong winds and active fires which threaten to spread to populated areas. Later, Latrun was also evacuated.
Just prior to noon, the Fire and Rescue Service ordered Kibbutz Nachshon's residents to evacuate. As of 2:20 p.m., the list of evacuated communities included: Neve Shalom, Beko'a, Mitzphe Harel, Mesilat Zion, Tarum, Ta'oz, and Nachshon, as well as the Latrun and Canada Park sites.

Strength and Vulnerability
In addition to helping us subdue our enemies, physical and military strength also deters adversaries and allows us to live without fear.[1] But strength is hard to achieve. Even the most potent nations and people have vulnerabilities. Hashem creates us and manages the world this way to remind us of our dependency upon Him.
As the Jewish people are meant to feel especially close to Hashem, He makes us more vulnerable. Our people have always experienced this vulnerability. After we triumphantly left Egypt, we were first threatened by the Egyptians at Yam Suf and then attacked by Amalek. Even after entering the Land of Israel, threats and attacks against us continued. Eventually, we were even exiled — twice.
Throughout our many centuries in exile, we co...
