Shots were fired at UMass Boston, prompting a large police response on campus Thursday afternoon, the Boston Police Department confirmed.
Shots were reported at 3:45 p.m. near 240 Morrissey Boulevard at the campus's location in Dorchester.
Sky 5 video showed students and campus employees evacuating a school building.
One officer was seen with a rifle from Sky5 as police officers swarmed the area.According to several UMass Boston alerts, the incident is a "public safety threat" and is in/near a residence hall in the school's East Building. The school is asking people to avoid the area as well as the Campus Center.
UMass Boston Police are responding to the scene, as well as Boston police officers.
It is unclear at this time whether anyone was injured in the incident.

Authorities are getting closer to being able to identify a person they believe killed political activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday and recovered the suspected firearm used in the shooting at Utah Valley University.

Baltimore, Md - Sept. 10, 2025 - As the clock winds down on a final Baltimore County redistricting map, council members Mike Ertel and Izzy Patoka introduced an amendment to the map Tuesday.
"This updated 2 one map does the best job of keeping communities together as much as possible while also complying with the Voting Rights Act in giving communities of color the most meaningful opportunities to elect their preferred candidates," Councilman Ertel said.
The amendment creates a majority-minority district in addition to two majority African American districts.
This is all being done in the midst of expanding the county from seven districts to nine.
